Going back and forth – How flexible vegetation interacts with waves (and currents)?.
Date: 18.11.2020; UTC Time: 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM
Most coastal vegetation can be considered flexible and thus responds to hydrodynamic forcing by reconfiguring its shape. This has implications both for the plants themselves as well as for the drag it poses on waves and currents. It is thus important to quantify this flexibility and its role in the vegetation-wave interaction in order to predict these interactions and the resulting ecosystem services. In this talk I will give an engineering-friendly introduction to flexibility of vegetation and the back and forth between vegetation reconfiguration and wave motion.
