The four years I spent at the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras was pivotal in my life. A variety of interdisciplinary courses, state-of-the-art facilities and a wide array of resources helped me learn effectively and hone my problem-solving skills. More importantly, constant support from some of the best professors and an awesome peer group made the experience more enriching and fun.
Kiran Adhithya Ramakrishnan< PhD candidate, Ocean engineering department Place : Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, US< It was an exciting and enlightening experience to study in the Naval Architecture and Ocean engineering department at IIT Madras. The course was unique as it is a niche field and provided a cross disciplinary knowledge. With many eminent professors who provided valuable lessons on and off classrooms there was ample guidance for the students. The department computational facility allowed us to not only explore various software but also interact with research scholars that aided our learning. It was exciting to work on the wide array of labs present from the towing tank to the large wave flume. Laboratory classes were fun and enjoyable due to these unique facilities.

Undergraduate life is one of the fondest memories I have. The environment in NA, IITM was both academically challenging and nurturing at the same time. It was a very nice platform for students to express their talent, be it academic or otherwise. All professors were always encouraging students and very supportive. Even as a BTech student we get to do important research activities if we express interest. My studies in NA IITM opened up many avenues and launched my career.

DOE was the crow's nest which afforded me a bird's eye-view of the domain of ocean-engineering. The knowledge that I have gained during my days at IITM still acts as the compass that guides me to my goal. I entered IITM with the aim of getting job, I left IITM with a passion for lifelong learning.
Devan S.S
Offshore Structural Engineer
I did my Masters in Offshore Structural Engineering (OE3) from DOE. The department has paved a way to my present career as an offshore structural engineer by providing a very sound and strong technical basics and understanding about the offshore engineering. The facilities and faculties of DOE are globally outstanding in this ocean engineering field and their valuable guidance has shaped my career significantly.
Dr S. Anbukumar
Professor
I am happy to register my experiences at Department of Ocean Engineering here. The overall working model of the Department provided a moulding base to shape me in my academic progress and achievement, thereby enabled me to reverberate on my progress and plan my academic and skills development effectively in the Post-graduation time. The Department of Ocean Engineering provides us an atmosphere for active learning process throughout the course of study with various facilities right from the most interactive classroom to seamless laboratories to educative library, etc. Also the Professors, Technical Staffs and office staffs of the Department are unmatched in their knowledge and the way they behave with the students, which cultivated a sense of humane in our student communities mind.

The apex of everything from DOE during my stay there was "the attitude" I was taught, which made a big difference approaching the problems both technical and in life.
Nothing is complex, your mind needs a bit of time to get the full picture.
Manda Subrahmanya Srinivasa Reddy

DOE not only gave me the knowledge but also the valuable experience, which helped me to sustain challenges in Oil & Gas field. The department faculties and facilities are the best combination for students, who is willing to develop himself/herself as a most successful alumni in the field of Ocean engineering field. I was able to develop " Never give up" attitude there, which is key of my success, hence I would like thank department for shaping my future. Thank you very much.

The competitive heterogenous academia of DOE prepared me for the global academic environment with technical and inter-personal skills leading to an exponential learning curve in my academic life. Working with a group of inter disciplinary researchers made me aware of multiple domains from various technological arenas and provided me with necessary inputs to explore multiple academic positions of varying nature post DOE in my academic journey.
Dr. Sudhir Kumar Chaturvedi
Associate Professor, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, India
It was the great time in DOE, IITM. I enjoyed a lot while studying there. I must say, IITM is the brand name in the academic feternity. I also got the chance to visit IIT Bombay as a visiting intern scholar and later on to KORDI, South Korea. A very great Professor i found at DOE to shape me in terms of the future career prospectus. Thank you once again.
T.V.S. Narasimha Rao
Director & Distinguished Professor
I was part of the first batch of MS/PhD students and therefore the experience and environment was full of excitement, learning and enjoyable.
Kannayyasetti
Lead Offshore Structural Engineer
It was wonderful moments when I was in IITM. I learned basic offshore Engineering in IITM only. It changed my life a lot after getting graduation from prestigious institution like IITM. I am very much thankful to all beloved Professors in IITM. I felt very happy to memorize my experience when I was doing experimental studies @ wave flume as part of my post graduation.
Dr Arunakumari Garaga
SME Geotechnical Engineer and Principal Structural Engineer
It's been a boon to pursue my PG from DOE and during which I had the opportunity to learn about various design aspects of offshore structures and Geotechnical aspects. I salute all the Professors if department especially Prof. Narasimha Rao and Prof. Sundar HOD at that time
Vijai Kumar B
Deputy Manager, Engineering and R&D Services, HCL Technologies
IIT Madras DOE gave me the opportunity to pursue my research interests with full freedom. The professors let you be yourself and constantly motivate you to bring the best out of you. When I proposed my guide (Dr. G Suresh Kumar) to permit me to carry out M.S. Petroleum Engineering research activities at Institute of Reservoir Studies (IRS) - ONGC, he readily accepted, sent out request letters and helped me finish my lab research and field work at Cambay basin in a tenure of six months’ time (one full semester I was away from campus working on my research areas at ONGC Ahmedabad). During the final semester, the members of the Placement Cell, my guide and Head-OE helped me with Campus Placements and eventually I got campus placed in a top MNC. At present, during my commute to office, whenever I look at the IIT-M Main Gate, a whole lot of memories springs up making me nostalgic. Thank you IIT-M DOE.
Dr. Virag Mishra
Hydrodynamic Engineer-Carnegie Clean Energy Ltd.
The knowledge gained at the DOE has shape my career in the area of fluid dynamics and sustainable energy development. The vibrant environment of DOE and IIT exposed me to the challenges and trends in the ocean energy sector.
Srineash V K
Assistant Professor
I had a fascinating experience in DOE and in IIT-M in general. I joined for MS program in 2013 and eventually upgraded to PhD program. I entered DOE as a fresh graduate with a Bachelor's in Civil Engineering and I was deeply interested to explore the Ocean Engineering Domain. DOE has the state of the art hydrodynamic fascilities and gave a wonderful research ambience! I would say the environment in DOE nurtured me to grow, develop and expand. I am particulary greateful to the Professors and to my research supervisor for helping me grow as an academician and a researcher.
