• Professor Deepak did Btech in civil engineering and MTech in Structural engineering before joining PhD in Dept of Civil engineering at IIT Delhi. He did Ph.D. on stochastic analysis of Single degree of freedom system using stochastic averaging technique. Further, he went for PostDoc to Notre Dame university, USA. There, he worked on variety of topics related to structural dynamics and control. He joined department of ocean engineering IIT Madras in 2010 as Assistant Professor with expertise in structural dynamics. Presently, he is Professor in Dept of ocean engineering, IIT Madras. His main interest of research is in Reliability, Stochastic structural dynamic and control for linear and nonlinear system also he is interested in developing mathematical model related to dynamics of structure.

• Deepak Kumar uses synergistic approaches, including computer models, laboratory and full-scale experiments to better understand the offshore structural behavior under random environment and develops techniques to enhance their performance. Few topics in recent years are:
• Passive and semi-active control of structure using magneto- Rheological dampers to enhance the performance and life of structure under environmental conditions.
• Understanding and designing the liquid dampers like TLD and TLCD for enhancing the performance of structures.
• Stochastic structural control of nonlinear system.
• Development of technique for health monitoring of large structure using Artificial Neural Network.
• Understanding the dynamic response of system with changing direction.
• Reliability analysis of nonlinear system under extreme environmental conditions.
